Overview:
This extension reads selected text aloud using third-party Text-to-Speech (TTS) providers chosen by the user. It is designed for accessibility and productivity.
What data we process:
- Only the text that you explicitly highlight is sent to your configured TTS provider to generate audio.
- User activity: Interactions related to TTS playback (play/pause/stop) and selection detection are used locally to operate the feature.
Data we do not collect:
- We do not collect personally identifiable information, health data, financial data, authentication data, personal communications, location, or your browsing history.
Storage:
- We store your preferences (e.g., provider, voice, rate/pitch) and your API keys locally using chrome.storage. Keys are used only to authenticate requests to your chosen TTS provider.
Data sharing and transfer:
- Selected text is transmitted to the TTS provider you choose (e.g., ElevenLabs, Hume AI, Straico) solely to synthesize speech and retrieve voices. No other third parties receive your data.
Retention:
- Preferences persist locally until you clear them. We do not maintain external servers for your data.
Security:
- API keys are stored locally. We recommend using provider features such as usage limits and key rotation.
User controls:
- You can change providers, clear settings, disable the extension, or remove API keys at any time. You can export audio only by explicit action via the download button.
Children:
- Not intended for children under 13.
Changes:
- We will update this policy on the listing and the website when practices change.
